Luce County is located in the northeastern part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, along the southern shores of Lake Superior. It largely consists of wilderness river country with approximately 40% of it classified as freshwater swampland. It has remained largely undeveloped, with a little over half of it contained in the Lake Superior State Forest.
Luce County is best known for being the home of Tahquamenon Falls, the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi. The County Seat is Newberry, which contains a variety of resorts, and is a central starting point for fishing, sporting and recreational excursions. Another popular area is the Two Heart River, considered one of Michigan's premiere Trout streams, which flows into Lake Superior at Two Heart, just east of Muskallonge Lake.
